Let's go hiking! Volcano, Mt.Tokachi in Kamikawa sub-prefectural area!

 by Kazu

I think  some people have started to climb the mountains in Hokkaido.
The volcano, Mt.Tokachi(-dake) attracts many hikers from other part of Hokkaido and the globe every year.
Even for the novices in climbing mountain, it is very rewarding to climb the volcano.
Right hand side is the photo taken from the crater of the mountain, looking down the hillside.
Some parts of the hillside had been carved by rainfall, heavy snow and strong wind. So the mountain looks so young.
The trail leading to the crater made by the eruption in Ansei Era is not the way to enjoy seeing flowers in this season but many people visit the mountain even in this season.
Compared to the steep mountains in main island of Japan, the peaks of the mountains in Hokkaido can be conquered easier with the bless of wonderful scenery, I think.
To feel the dynamism of Hokkaido Island, Kamikawa sub-prefectural area located in the center part of Hokkaido is the best place to visit.
This is the crater made by the eruption in Ansei Era.
The surface of the crater is spotted, dappled and mottled  like a mosaic art.
After hiking,?
I recommend Ryounkaku Hotel and Spa to ease the pain of your muscle and to relax. Even in winter, the hotel has peculiar atmosphere with the scenery of white peaks of mountains over the clouds.
More beautiful photos are at http://www.ryounkaku.com/photo.html
Shall we start hiking before the temperature is on the steep curve.
