The Hotel we stayed in Koror, Palau !

This is the room I stayed in Koror, Palau. Pretty good and comfortable, isn't it ? With a small fridge and closet, I would stay there for a week, I thought..

I love this kind of simple room for dividing. A small eatery was next to the hotel. The name was "Bistro Palm Bay". I was so intrigued by the sign of Red Rooster Draft Beer, Palau's National Beer. 

We would raise glasses filled up with Red Rooster in the evening. The deck was extended to the ocean. What do you think when you raise glass on the deck like this ? Hokkaido has a strong relationship with Palau. 

 

Life in Koror, Palau !

The high school in Koror seemed to be smaller than I had expected.  We visited there officially in the afternoon on that day. The Minister of Education in Palau Mr. Sinton Soalablai also visited there with us.

I imagined how my life would be like if I settled in Palau.  The room I stayed in the hotel of Koror was appropriate for us with the ample space and tile floor.

Scuba divers might stay in much cheaper accommodation but this room was very convenient for me as a diver. The beach sand could be shaken off so easily on the floor and cleaned up.

 

Downtown of Koror, Palau !

I reached the downtown of Koror. Some governmental offices and a high school were there but the office and the residence of the President were not in Koror. 

Some fancy residences were beside the road I ran on. I found the supreme court in downtown. What kind of lawsuits had been conducted there? I wondered.

Good-looking restaurants were on the hillside on the north side of downtown. The design of the buildings were quite simple but some tropical taste could be sensed.

It seemed that the City of Koror was still sleeping. Sometimes colorful fish could be seen in the water. The residential area, downtown, commercial area were very close to the sea level.  

 Only the office and the residence of the President of the Republic of Palau was at the high altitude on this island. It was surrounded by the rainforest. 

We would pay a courtesy call on the President Tommy Renengesau. Before that, I checked up the southern end of the island where some research centers were developed with the support of Japan.

 

Jogging around in Koror, Palau !

I headed to the northern part of the island and reached the downtown of Koror. Public works were conducted in some parts of the city.

Some small islands were close to the national route which was like the spine of the island. Nobody jogging, other than me,  could be seen during my early-bird jogging. 

The water near the coast seemed to be so clear but I was not sure the biological oxygen dem demand and chemical oxygen demand of the water.

 

Koror, Palau in the morning !

I jogged around in Koror early in the morning. I was fascinated by the landscape of the coastline in the capital city and under the water but I fended off my strong desire to dive into the ocean at the crack of dawn.

I got the perspective of the city and the island. The cheap accommodations for scuba divers could be seen on my way to the downtown and the southern end of the island.

Some institutes for the research of the ocean and the ground heat also could be seen on the southern end. Japanese central government and private companies seemed to support the research.

 

Invited to Palau !

Invited to the Republic of Palau, we saw a variety of crafts that showed the national culture and the history of Palau at the lounge of the airport. 

We stayed in the different hotel from the one that accommodated the delegation members from Hokkaido Legislative Assembly.

It was because of the regulation put on our accommodation cost in the official business jaunt. The magic hour in Palau was so beautiful as shown in the photos.

 

Mission to Palau 2 !

The delegation members of Hokkaido Legislative Assembly and I arrived in Palau in April of 2017. We were invited by the President of the Republic of Palau at that time,  to the memorial service for the  Japanese soldiers deceased in World War Ⅱ. 

The Emperor of Japan at that time made a imperial visit a year before our visit. Praying for the deceased in the War had been the top of my to-do list and my sincere desire.

Happily I could join the official delegation from Hokkaido to Palau and played the role as a tour conductor and the interpreter of the delegation and the President Mr. Tommy Renengesau.

 

Mission to Palau !

We had guests from Hawaii and Vice Governor of Hokkaido at that time Mr.Yoshihiro Yamaya was paid a courtesy call by the friends from Hawaii.

Soon after their visit, I headed to the Republic of Palau with the delegation of Hokkaido Legislative Assembly. The portrait of His Excellency the President of Palau  Mr Tommy Renengesau at that time was displayed on the wall of the lounge in the International Airport of Koror.

The delegation members from Hokkaido LegislativeAssembly seemed to be a little bit tired of the long flight. But they were so looking forward to visiting the Presidential office in Marukeok. 

 

Hokkaido Smile Ambassador in Hawaii !

We raised glasses with Hokkaido Smile Ambassador Mr. Pali Kaaihue in Sapporo again and enjoyed the Hokkaido cuisine in Japanese bistro Izakaya.

We dropped by a karaoke studio and really enjoyed the beautiful voice of Pali-san. It is very difficult  to do such communication now but I hope we will do that again soon.

Pali-san is a singer and a  powerful producer of TV program. He worked wonders for Hokkaido and its products. We have treat him  to the culinary delights in Hokkaido.

 

Hawaiian Air's Suport to Hokkaido !

Ms. Lucy Tsu was so kind and supportive for the promotion of Hokkaido tourism and products. We really appreciate her consideration and cooperation.

Many tourists use this lounge. I expect they will pick up the brochure of Hokkaido tourism and products and go through during their waiting time. 
Soon after coming back from Hawaii,  one of the Hokkaido Smile Ambassadors in Hawaii Mr. Pali Kaaihue visited Sapporo for the promotion of Hokkaido. He kindly exerted special efforts to deliver the attractive information in Hawaii. I met his mom and aunty in Honolulu before.  My wife and I are eager to meet them again.
