The Performance by the Students of Kaiser High School !

Naginata sword performance by the students of Sapporo Intercultural and Thechnological High School seemed to have grabbed the hearts of the audience from Kaiser High School including the parents of the students.

In return, the students of Kaiser High School played the Ukulele for their friends from Hokkaido. The sound of Ukulele was so nice to recognize again where they were. 

The soft and comfortable sound made all the participants to the event so happy and refreshed. We were very happy to share the time with them on that day. 

 

Ninjari Ban Ban !

The second performance by the students of Sapporo Intercultural and Technological High School was Naginata Sword Dance. The background music was "Ninjari Ban Ban" by Karry Pamyu Pamyu.

In Japan, the wives of samurai warriors were obliged to practice to use Naginata sword to protect themselves in the war and their normal lives. I think it was the matter of the reach of Naginata sword to fight against the males with Japanese traditional sword.   

I think it was a little bit tough for the students of SITHS to bring the fake Naginata sword from Hokkaido to Hawaii but their performance worked wonders there.

The students of Sapporo Intercultural and Technological High School showed their best performance of "Yosakoi Sohran Dance" in the gym of Kaiser High School in Oahu. 

The students and their parents of Kaiser Hogh School were so excited to see the dance performance of real Yosakoi Sohran pecurior to Hokkaido. We were also attracted by their performance so much.

The next performance by the students of Sapporo Intercultural and Technological High School was Naginata Sword Dance. In the Japanese traditional Hakama attire, the female students started their performance in solemn atmosphere.

 

Vice Governor Mr. Yoshihiro YAMAYA delivered the speech !

When the first official delegation from Hokkaido, Sapporo Intercultural and Technological High School sent their students to Kaiser High School for educational exchange in a study tour to Hawaii. 

The Vice Governor of Hokkaido at that time, mr. Yoshihiro YAMAYA was given the slot to deliver the speech to the students and teachers of both high school.

After his speech, the students from Sapporo Intercultural and Technological High School performed "Yosakoi Sohran Dance" in front of the Kaiser students and their parents.

 The Vice Principal of Sapporo Intercultural and Technological High School Mr. Yoshihiko SHICHI who contributed so much to establishing a solid relationship with Kaiser High School and shook hands in this photo is currently the Principal of SITHS after his career as the Principal of the High School in eastern part of Hokkaido. 

SITHS got the strong driving force again to deepen and widening the exchange with Kaiser High School, Oahu and other high schools on this globe.

The First Lady at that time in 2016 Mrs. Dawn Amano IGE delivered the words of appreciation, encouragement and delights. She had strong motivation to accelerate the educational development for the future of the youths. 

 

Welcome Song by Kaiser High School !

The students of Sapporo Intercultural and Technological High School was welcomed by the chorus of Kaiser High School and the heartfelt words from Principal Justin Mew.. 

The event got started in silence that was broken by the heartwarming speech that expressed the importance of the international exchange between the regions as well as the solid, caring, beneficial and everlasting affiliation. 

The Vice Principal of Sapporo Intercultural and Technological High School who contributed to the solid relationship of SITHS and Kaiser extended the words of appreciation in return. I really appreciate his devotion to establish the affiliation. 

 

The First Lady of the State of Hawaii Joined !

The First Lady of the State of Hawaii at that time in 2016 Mrs. Dawn Amano IGE whose background had been in educational area, joined the international exchange event of Sapporo Intercultural and Technological High School in Hokkaido and Kaiser High School in Oahu, Hawaii.  

The Principal of Kaiser High School Dr. Justin Mew gave a briefing on the exchange of the high schools and the schedule during the SITHS students' stay in Hawaii.

The powerful members of Hokkaido Legislative Assembly witnessed the event filled up with enthusiasm of the students. That must have boosted the momentum to establish a sister-state affiliation between Hokkaido and Hawaii.  

 

The Performance of Kaiser and Sapporo Intercultural and Technological High School !

Getting the participation of the first official delegation  from Hokkaido and the Governor of the State of Hawaii at that time Mr. David Yutaka Ige with wife the First Lady Mrs. Dawn Ige, The gym was filled up with the enthusiasm of the students of both high school.

A variety of performance would be shown in this event for cultural and educational exchange in this gym. The parents of the Kaiser students were also in the gym because they have to pay a lot to send their kids to Hokkaido. 

Different from Japan, the students who want to visit Hokkaido and other regions of Japan have to earn money selling lemonade, ice cream in their summer vacations. Their independence is also the purpose of the exchange.

 

Study Tour to Kaiser High School !

The first official delegation from Hokkaido to Hawaii visited Kaiser High School when Sapporo Intercultural and Technological High School sent its students to Kaiser. Ainu textile made by the indigenous people in Hokkaido was one of the souvenir to Kaiser.

After the greeting, we joined the educational exchange event held in the gym.So many students of Kaiser High School and SITHS got together to show their performance each other.  

To be honest, I got goosebumps facing the enthusiasm of the both students. I was very happy to see that on the spot. The mascot character of Kaiser High School is cougar, mountain lion in North America. No cougars in Hawaii.

Kaiser High School has special cooperative relationship with Sapporo Intercultural and Technological High School in Hokkaido. SITHS send its students for study tour to Kaiser every year.  

We chose the timing of their study tour in 2016. Principal Mr. Justin Mew kindly received us and gave the heartfelt words of welcome and his intention for the future.

The Vice Governor of Hokkaido at that time Mr. Yoshihiro Yamaya expressed his appreciation on behalf of all the delegation members as well as their expectation for the educational exchange.
