The Delegation from Thailand 2!

by Kazu

The delegation members seemed to be satisfied with their visit to Hokkaido Government but I am not sure if I gave them enough answer to their qestions or not. I had to interpret and answer to their questions in my poor English.
h
These are the full members of the delegation. It was so cold outside of the building but they took many photos in front of the "Red Brick", former government office building of Hokkaido.
This is the wooden figure of an elephant decorated with green and red jewels and gold coloring. the second delegation from the same programme will visit us next monday.

The Delegation from Thailand !

by Kazu

A delegation from Thailand visited Hokkaido Government. The name of the programme for the delegation  is the Comptroller General's Department of Thailand's Financial and Fiscal Management Programme for Senior Executives.
We explained on the currrent situation of the budget and accounting system of Hokkaido Government. We have to streamline the publick works and decision-making system. We also have to cull the works themselves and improve the efficiency and effectiveness.
The head of the delegation kindly gave me a wooden figure of elephant. The pretty black wood carving is th symbol of Thailand. I hope our explanation satisfied them enough and they will be able to enjoy their stay in Hokkaido as well as the culinary delights sourced locally.

The Ski Resort near Anchorage !

by Kazu

This is the entrance of Alyeska Resort & Hotel. The orthentic design of the interior made a attracting harmony with the works of art made by indigenous people of North America.
The difference of Inuit art and that of other indigenous people in North America can be recognized even for us but Unangax people seemed to have established their own characteristics on their art.
The higher mountains could be seen from the road to the south. Going down the road beside Turnagain Arm, we passed by Beluga Point where belugas can be seen sometimes, View Point and Bird Creek.

Quite an asset!

by Kazu

It's a pity that one of the staff of my division wil depart for her new career.
She is quite an asset of Hokkaido Government including my division. She is a Korean girl and speaks fluent Japanese. As an interpreter and translater, she is superb. Aa a coordinator of international exchange, she made efforts for better understandings of Korea and the relationships with Japan.

I think that she had tough times to get the relationships between Hokkaido and Korea better but she did quite good jobs for Hokkaido and Korea. We really appreciate her devotion to the good relationship between Hokkaido and Korea. I hope she will be successful in her career and private life. Thank you so much !

Grizzly ?

by Kazu

We arrived in Alyeska Resort and Hotel in the woods. The atmosphere was so nice and gorgeous. Staying in the hotel  must make us so exciting and pay a small fortune.
The parking lot of the hotel was so wide and many cars were there on that day but it was very calm in that morning.
I felt a shade of something huge outside of the window of the hotel. that was a statue of bear facing the window. That was scary but well-designed with the background scenery of mountains.

Before the Sunrise in Alaska !

by Kazu

The railway of Alaska Express was behind me and near the cove. The train goes through the railway once a week. Behind the cloud, the sun was rising and started to giving the color to the landscape.

Even so, the scenery seemed to be gray scale in winter. It was like the color of killer whale, Orca.
The landscape under the water may be also monochrome and the fish inn the ocean must be the same tone to protect themselves.

Driving to the Southern Alaska !

by Kazu

At the center of Anchorage,
there is a large lawn park that had been used as a tarmac for air crafts. I found a memorial object in the park as above.

Before the sunrise on that day, we left Anchorage and headed to the southern part of Alaska Peninsula. The scenery was colored blue with the the sky and the reflection from the snow.
It was very calm and kind of solemn with the blue landscape. Floating ice were drifting but the cove seemed to be shallow.

The Deities of Unalaska Island !

by Kazu

We could see some sea otters near the coast of the island. The leader of Qawalangin Tribe of Unalaska kindly let us use the car he rented for driving around the island.
The entrance of bomb shelters appeared here and there on the hill during our drive. The ocean produces tremendous amount of seafood ad creatures.
It tutrned out one of my friends visits Dutch Harbor every year by ship and he has friends on this island. It was a pity that I was informed on that after my visit to Unalaska. I am wondering how long it takes to reach the island from Hokkaido by ship.

God Bless to Unalaska Island !

by Kazu

The leader of Qawalangin Tribe of Unalaska kindly rent a bigger SUV to take us around on the island for our convenience. I went down to the bank of the river and watch around to find some creatures.
It seemed that the cold and strong wind in winter had kept trees from growing on the hill. It may be the original scenery of the globe. No huge beast of prey had not been on the island.
I did not ask the leader whether he or somebody had explored all over the island or not. Looking around his premises may be the duty of the King on the island. The wind from the ocean was so comfortable and refreshing.

The Relation between Unangax/Aleut and Hokkaido people !

by Kazu

The king crab was filled with the crab meat and made me imagine the power of the muscle. The next day, we flew back to Anchorage.
The Consulate Office of Japan in Anchorage kindly treated us to the wonderful lunch featuring delicious local beefsteak grilled so nicely.
In the evening, we were invited to the potluck party hosted by Unangax people made of thirteen tribes in Aleutian Islands and the continent. Their performance started solemnly.

Aleutian Grade !

by Kazu

I've been to the arctic area of Canada  twenty years ago. The scenery of that area was similar to this but it was much warmer on Aleutian Islands.
The bright sunshine divided the cloud at the time and was like the demonstration of the divine power.
We thanked God enough for the wonderful show of the nature and went back to the hotel we stayed. Thje main dish of the dinner was the gift of the ocean around the island. It was so delicious and made me filled with vim and vigor.
