端渓~Tankei in The Windsor Hotel TOYA

by Kazu

Today, I introduce the buckwheat noodle restaurant in Windsor Hotel that was the answer of the monthly quiz in September.
The name of the restaurant is Tankei that is the namesake of the place that produces very famous item of Chinese calligraphy.
It is on the 17th floor, I think. From the elevator hall, such a beautiful corridor lead us to the restaurant.
The official web site of this hotel mentioned about the concept of this hotel as follows;
Start your long night while it’s still light outside with sake, appetizers, and lighthearted conversation.
We bring you our new soba noodle restaurant with a carefree and friendly atmosphere enjoyed as only at a resort.

The soba noodle shop has been loved by the common people since the Edo Period. Craftsmen who started work early in the morning finished
work early, so the soba shop has been said to be bustling before evening. “Tankei” revisits the roots of the soba shop, as a place where anybody can gather without the need to put on airs, and with the goal of providing a playful atmosphere. So whenever you wish, please pay us a visit any time, as we will be open from lunchtime to the end of the day.
<Name Origin and Menu>“Tankei” is the name of the production site of lustrous, fine textured ink stone of the highest quality. This noodle shop provides a carefree and friendly atmosphere in which you may enjoy the season’s finest
ingredients of Hokkaido’s vast land and sea.

“Tankei” serves not only soba noodles but grilled dishes, temporas and delicacies as well as Japanese sake recommended by the sommelier. Enjoy a refreshing plate of soba noodles at the end of your meal for full satisfaction. The buckwheat carefully ground with a stone mill to make the soba is a product of Hokkaido’s Kuromatsunai town which is famous for Japan’s northernmost beech tree forest.

on the official web site of this hotel.
In Edo era before Meiji Restoration, the folks in Japan drink Sake, Japanese alcoholic drink in Soba restaurants or stands. So various kinds of sake from all over Japan the restaurant has in its inventory.
The scenery from the window on 17th floor is much better than that from the ground floor.
The buckwheat is from this area Kuromatsunai Town and adjacent towns.
At the foot of this great peak Toya, small communities that include nursing homes are there.
The peak of Mt.Youtei called Ezo Fuji was covered with cloud on that day.
Zaru-soba in this restaurant was so nice but I am not sure if this is better than the buckwheat noodle restaurant in Numata Town.
Topped with grated radish and pieces of dried bonito, this cold noodle is so fine particularly in summer.
These long sheet glasses were conveyed from Muroran City, the nearest city of manufacturing, but it was so hard even for the professional deliverers.
The main entrance of the hotel is decorated with this kind of flower arrangement everyday. The arrangement is so excellent. Please visit and have a look! Worthwhile!
