Present from the Mayor of Numata Town and God in Shosanbetsu Village !

by Kazu

There is a Shinto Shrine on the cliff facing the Sea of Japan. The name of the shrine is "Konpira Jinja". The traditional red gate is standing on the rock of seabed. Praying for the safety of fishermen and fleets, the shrine was established. It may be a little bit tough to reach there for worship.

One of the traditional red gates is on the beach and another one is in the waves of the ocean. The last one is on the cliff. The steps to the sacred part of the shrine are in a very narrow space. Please watch your step when you go up the stairs.
A ray of sunshine gave a spot light to the shrine and red gates. A sacred label  of God Konpira had been carried to the cape by the waves of the ocean.  fisherman worshiped the label and set on the cliff. After that, the number of shipwreck decreased. That is why, many people have visited and worshiped there.
