Shrine of Pure Fresh Water !

by Kazu

The fountain is near the entrance to "Raiun Shrine" in Shari Town. The area is well-maintained as a waterpark of the town. The name of the shrine and the area derives from "Raikunnai" which means "the river of deceased" in the language of the ingigenous people in Hokkaido "Ainu". "Raiun" is described with the Chinese characters "来運" which means "coming fortune" in Japanese language.

So the water is called "good luck water" and many people bring back the water using many tanks and bottles for their good health and fortune. The cold water that went through the body of Mt. Shari-dake is so pure and rich in mineral. The water was so comfortable to cooldown my body.
After pouring the water in the empty bottles, we went up the hillside to the shrine. There was a Japanese Yew aged approximately on thousand year. The pure and mineral-rich water from the fountain wonders trees. It was the first time for us to visit there.
