St. Patrick's Day in Sapporo 6!

by Kazu

It seemed that Sapporo Nishi High School was exchanging with a high school in Ireland. The driving force of the first St. Patrick's Day parade in Hokkaido including Sapporo City was the students of Sapporo Nishi high school and Hokkaido University.
On top of that, Engaru Town has a special relationship with Ireland. In the year of 1964 when Tokyo Olympic Games were held, the seeds of trees were brought from the countries that dispatch the athletes to the Olympic games.
Some of the seeds were brought to Engaru Town and raised to be big trees. The seed from Ireland was successfully grown and bloomed. Of course, the Irish tree produced fruits and seeds. Those seeds may be delivered to Tokyo when the new Olympic games are held in Tokyo in 2020 and shared with the countries.
