January 1st, 2022!

by Kazu

In the morning of January 1st, Japanese people make a point of having such meal in the beautiful Japanese-lacquered wooden boxes. Pacific herring's roe called "Kazunoko" in Japanese and boiled black beans are for the prosperity of the offsprings and  the family. Sweet chestnuts paste is almost a kind of dessert. Boiled kelp-roll with boiled Pacific saury is the crust of broth.

All the family members greet again before the breakfast late in the morning because they greeted after the count down of the new year and eat buckwheat noodle soup praying for long lives of the family members. The midnight meal may d for health but it's the tradition of Japanese people.
We headed to Restaurant and Bar "Sky J" on the 35th floor of JR Tower Hotel Building to have buffet-style new year lunch. It was so snowy on that day that we gave up new-year worship to the nearest Japanese Shrine after the lunch.
