Volunteer in Minamifurano-cho(Town) !

In Hokkaido, 4 typhoons landed and approached successively in August of this year.
A number of typhoons gathered, and it's said that it is for the first time for Hokkaido to experience such terrible bunch of typhoons.
The transportation network of roads and railroads in Hokkaido was devastated by the typhoons. One of the typhoons also brought damage on farm produces.
Lionrock typhoon called "Number 10" in Japan was closing to Hokkaido on August 31 and brought big damage
to all parts of Hokkaido.
Some parts of embankment beside Sorachi river  in Minamifurano-Town were broken at around 4:40 

a.m. on August 31 by the typhoon.
As a result, water flow from Sorachi river swamped to the center of Minamifurano Town and a lot of buildings were damaged by the flood.
Therefore about ,1500 people  who live in this area should be evacuated.
Restoration constructions have already started in the damaged areas of Hokkaido.
For example, the urgent construction to restore the embankment of Sorachi River has been done.

This construction was begun from August 31, and it's been completed on September 6.

In damaged area. Blackout restoration of water supply and restoration
construction on the road are being developed in the area where I suffered
damage again.
But it isn't only large-scale construction with a machine in rehabilitation
in an area.
Small work by the person is also needed.
また被害を受けた地域では、停電の解消・上下水道の復旧・道路の復旧工事が進みつ
つあります。

しかし地域の復興には、機械を使用した大規模工事だけではありません。
人の手による細かい作業も必要とされるのです。

私の職場では、９月６日から数日間に渡って、有志一同がボランティアとして南富良
野町内にあるポテトチップス工場の清掃を行いました。
この工場は、空知川が氾濫した結果、その濁流が敷地内にまで流れ込みました。All the persons concerned passed in a few days from September 6 at my
workplace, and cleaned the factory of potato chips in Minamifurano-cho as a
volunteer.
After Sorachi river was flooded with this factory, the muddy stream even
flowed in the site.

After that an embankment was restored, but the mud carried by a muddy stream
was still left for the outside barriers.
The power of the man is needed to clean such place.
We removed the mud which stuck to the outside barrier by a scoop while also
asking the help of Bulldozer.
The adhesiveness became strong in the mud which stuck to the outside
barrier. A wooden branch and trash, etc. were mixed in the mud. Removal of
mud was considerable hard labor from such thing.
A volunteer for a disaster recovery is being recruited in Minamifurano-cho
at present.

 I knew the natural fear and difficulty of the rehabilitation through
volunteer activities.
I'm wishing that a life of the person who suffered turns back early.

台風がもたらした暴風雨等によって、道路及び鉄道などの交通網が寸断
されました。また台風は、農作物にも被害を及ぼしました。

中でも、８月３１日に北海道に接近した台風１０号は、道内各地に大きな被害をもた
らしました。
南富良野町では、暴風雨により８月３１日午前４時４０分ごろ空知川の堤防が決壊し
ました。
この結果、南富良野町では、空知川の水が町の中心部に流れ込み、沢山の建物が浸水
することとなりました。
このためこの地域に住む約１５００人の人々は、一時避難することとなりました。

なお北海道では、既に被害を受けた地域の復興工事が始まっています。
例えば空知川では、堤防の緊急復旧工事が行わました。
この工事は、８月３１日から開始され、９月６日には完了しています。

また被害を受けた地域では、停電の解消・上下水道の復旧・道路の復旧工事が進みつ
つあります。

その後、堤防が復旧されましたが、濁流によって運ばれた汚泥が外柵等にまだ残され
ていました。

こうした場所を清掃するには、人間の力が必要です。
私たちは、ブルトーザーの力も借りながら、外柵に付いた汚泥等をスコップで除去し
ました。
外柵に付いた汚泥は、粘着性が強くなっていました。また汚泥の中には、木の枝やゴ
ミ等が混じっていました。こうしたことから、汚泥の除去はかなりの重労働でした。

現在、南富良野町では、災害復旧のためのボランティアを募集しています。

私は、ボランティア活動を通じて、自然の恐ろしさと復興の難しさを知りました。

被災された方の生活が、早く元に戻ることを願っています。
