Sapporo Gokoku Shrine in autumn !

by Kazu

Sapporo Gokoku Shrine beside Sapporo Nakajima Park was decorated in a different way from the usual. The autumnal colored leaves on the ground were collected and used to make some heart mark on the premises.

Basically, Gokoku Shrines in Japan were for the deceased in the wars. The soldiers who fought for Japanese people including their families should be worshiped as the heroes and the guardians of Japan.
The priest of the shrine and the janitors arranged some heart marks on the lawn and the roads this fall. They have to collect the leaves again and hand them to the garbage collector later but they want visitors to be happy before and after the sorship.
