Peony Garden in Otaru City!
by Kazu
Beautiful Japanese peonies full-flourished in the garden of former guesthoused of the owner of fishing nets and vessels "the Aoyama". "Otaru Kihinkan, Kyu-Aoyama Bettei" is the current name of the facility. My wife and I were struck by the beauty of the flowers.
This is the monument of the fishermen's song sung during drawing the fishnets on the ship. The garden seemed to be well-maintained and I thought it must cost to trim the trees and old buildings of the facility.
Japanese peony is called "Shakuyaku"in Japanese. The big flowers are referred to express the beauty of females. Normal peony is called "botan" in Japanese. It is also used to praise the beauty of females. The garden is so nice to visit at the beginning of June.
